Aktuelle Forschungstätigkeit / Current Research:

• Die Extensible Markup Language (XML) hat sich inzwischen als Standard für die Modellierung, Speicherung und den Austausch von strukturierten Daten und Dokumenten durchgesetzt. Die Strukturiertheit von XML-Dokumenten kann genutzt werden, um die Performanz (z.B. Genauigkeit bzgl einer Anfrage) bei der Suche nach Dokumenten relevanten Inhalts erheblich zu verbessern. Immer mehr XML-Dokumente finden sich in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Netzwerken, die vielversprechende selbst-organisierende Infrastrukturen alternativ zu Client-/Server- Architekturen darstellen. Die Dokumente sind dann über ein P2P-Netzwerk verteilt, indem sie entweder lokal auf einzelnen Peers gespeichert oder kompletten Sammlungen, z.B. Digitalen Bibliotheken, zugeordnet sind. Aktuelle XML Suchmaschinen konzentrieren sich auf die Struktur der zu suchenden Dokumente, ohne Information Retrieval Methoden zur Bewertung der inhaltlichen Relevanz anzuwenden.
  Meine Forschung beschäftigt sich daher mit der Entwicklung einer verteilten Suchmaschine für XML-Dokumente, in der bei der Anwendung von Information Retrieval Techniken zur Berechnung relevanter Dokumente auch strukturelle Informationen verwendet werden.
• XML has become a widely accepted standard for modeling, storing, and exchanging structured documents. Taking advantage of the document structure can result in improving the retrieval performance of XML-documents notably. A growing number of these documents are stored in Peer-to-Peer networks, which are promising self-organizing infrastructures. Documents are distributed over the Peer-to-Peer network by either being stored locally on individual peers or by being assigned to collections such as Digital Libraries. Current XML search engines for P2P-networks lack the use of Information Retrieval methods to compute the relevance of documents.
  My work aims for the development of a distributed search engine for XML-documents, where Information Retrieval methods are enhanced by using structural information.
